The Rotary Four-Way Test is a simple but powerful ethical guide that Rotarians use in their personal, professional, and community lives. It was created in 1932 by Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor and later adopted by Rotary International.

It asks four questions of the things we think, say, or do:

  1. Is it the truth?

  2. Is it fair to all concerned?

  3. Will it build goodwill and better friendships?

  4. Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

It’s not just a Rotary tradition. Many clubs, schools, and organizations around the world use it as a framework for ethical decision-making and community building.
